Airbus is an international pioneer in the aerospace industry. A leader in designing, manufacturing and delivering aerospace products, services and solutions to customers on a global scale. While main industry partner and sponsor of the event, Airbus is also the essential provider of webinars and report evaluations.
EUROAVIA is the European Association of Aerospace Students. A voice for students, representing them at the European level and fostering industry links. EUROAVIA aims to address technical/soft-skill formative gaps in non-formal and informal settings throughout Europe.
EUROAVIA Terrassa is a local association that belongs to EUROAVIA. Founded in 2006, it is one of the most important associations in the ESEIAAT campus of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. The main activities organized for the members are related to courses in engineering skills, such as Matlab, LaTeX or 3D Printing and different trips and excursions to places related to the aerospace industry, as aircrafts maintenance hangars or an astrophotography trip. EUROAVIA Terrassa will be in charge of hosting the physical round.
The Airbus Sloshing Rocket Workshop 2019 aims at exploring the synergies between all entities by delivering a cutting-edge opportunity for students to learn with a hands-on focused approach.
Modern satellites have strict requirements and are often design-driven towards lightweight structures and long life expectations. This results in a large proportion of the overall weight being allocated to the liquid propellant. Consequently, the movement of the liquid inside fuel containers can significantly affect the dynamics of these systems. For this reason, modeling the behavior of sloshing liquids is of significant interest in various fields of the aerospace industry.
Airbus Sloshing Rocket Workshop
The Airbus Sloshing Rocket Workshop 2020 is a competition in which teams are tasked to design, build and fly a low-cost reusable rocket that is destabilized by the movement of water stored within an unpressurized tank. The design shall incorporate passive and/or active control mechanisms and its performance is a key aspect of the design in order to maximize range, time of flight and liquid payload capacity.
The Airbus Sloshing Rocket Workshop 2020 is divided into two phases. The Phase 1 (online round) is composed of Webinar lectures which will help teams design the rocket and stabilization system. Teams will produce a design report supported by calculations, simulations and/or prototype testing results, complete with description and justifications for the design choices.
Reports will be analyzed and given grades according to the Competition Rules and certificates will be awarded to teams scoring above 60% of the total score.
In Phase 2 (physical round), the 5 highest scoring teams will be invited to attend a weeklong workshop at Terrassa. There, teams will be tasked to physically assembling their designs to compete in a demonstration at the end of the week.
